Hear, hear, good people! The messengers of Val de Garonne have some exciting news to send you: The So Vélo, a greenway linking Marmande to Pindères and open since July 2023, has recently been equipped with new mediation furniture which will allow you to become unbeatable on the route of this greenway and on some themes of the Val de Garonne!
Green environment, outdoor facilities, colorful surprises... This old railway line will help you discover part of the Val de Garonne and the Coteaux et Landes de Gascogne, from all angles: put on your hiking shoes, climb on your bikes , or put on your rollerblades… the Voie Verte awaits you!
Fresh air is blowing over Lot-et-Garonne!
Former railway road towards Mont de Marsan, the So Vélo greenway welcomes hikers and gentle mobility enthusiasts from the department and elsewhere. This route extends between the Garonne canal, the Garonne valley and the hillsides of Gascony.
Since July 2023, this new cycle route has been accessible to the delight of lovers of the great outdoors: discover the Val de Garonne from town to town. Eh yes ! This greenway covers the western part of Lot-et-Garonne, 11 km of which are located in the Val de Garonne. The So Vélo crosses the communes of Marmande, Gaujac, Montpouillan and Samazan on the part of the Val de Garonne then continues towards the spa town of Casteljaloux, at the gateway to the Landes de Gascogne.
For your comfort, you will find these facilities at the So Vélo rest areas (Val de Garonne side):
- Picnic areas in Gaujac and Samazan
- Bicycle racks, sorting bins and cans in the Thivras car park, at the Gaujac and Samazan rest areas
- Bicycle self-repair terminal at the Samazan rest area
- Children's play area in Samazan
- VAE charging station at the So Vélo rest area in Samazan
- Water fountain in Samazan
Artistic works have been installed along the route offering another look at the route.
How to access So Vélo from Marmande city center?
If you park in the Plaine de la Filhole car parks (skate park side) in the town center of Marmande, you can access the new So Vélo in less than 15 minutes by taking Chemin du Roc, then Chemin de Thivras which are on a shared route.
11 km to explore in Val de Garonne…
It's a real breath of fresh air that awaits you on this route which leaves the Garonne towards the Landes de Gascogne: you will pass through the communes of Gaujac (where a break is necessary among its apple producers and of Kiwi in particular), from Montpouillan (crossing the emblematic Canal de Garonne bridge) or even from Samazan, before joining the communes of our friends of Coteaux and Landes de Gascogne. This secure route is part of the network of greenways associated with the Canal of the 2 seas by bike (connecting the Atlantic to the Mediterranean) and the Scandibérique (connecting Norway to Santiago de Compostela in Spain).
The Val de Garonne is an open door for amateur or experienced cyclists. Between the Lot valley by bike, canal des 2 mers by bike, the 7 cycle touring loops of the Val de Garonne and this new greenway, there is something for everyone. So to each his own, to each his own and don't forget to pass the message on to your friends.
Taking the So bike means you're already on the right track. At the end of this 27 km route, on foot, by bike or on wheels, your reward awaits you... Welcome to Casteljaloux, an exceptional spa town in the department. The Casteljaloux Baths are a natural source of relaxation. After sport, comfort: spa, indoor or outdoor swimming pool, enjoy the relaxing benefits of the resort. One of the many pearls of Lot-et-Garonne. Lake Clarens, located 3 km from the town center of Casteljaloux and accessible via the greenway, also offers many activities for everyone!
