Côtes du Marmandais wines: earthy in character…

To which territory does an AOC Côtes du Marmandais wine correspond?

OTVG W.Picamil Prod

Come to the Marmandais region, on the banks of the fertile Garonne to listen to our vines sing. Listen carefully: on the right bank, Guyenne whispers, while on the left, Gascony hums. In total, there are more than 1320 hectares of vineyards spread over 27 communes in Lot-et-Garonne.

As for the soils of the AOC Côtes du Marmandais, they are very important. The left bank of the Garonne offers clay-gravelly soil which gives our red gravel all their tannin. In contrast, the right bank of the river is renowned for its clay-limestone soil, from which round and fine Marmandais wines are born, suitable for long aging. This is called digging into the question!

Taste buds are not without pupils!

The AOC Côtes du Marmandais is fortunate to also be well surrounded. West ? You see Bordeaux and its Coteaux d’Entre-Deux-Mers where the powerful Graves are born. To the East ? Head for the calm Agen hillsides. Finally, further south-west, the Landes forest massif takes shape on the outskirts of the Côtes du Marmandais.

Pink, white, red: AOCs in the colors of Marmandais…

If the Côtes du Marmandais are renowned for their reds which flatter the palate, you must also count on their luminous and delicious whites. Not to mention the Côtes du Marmandais rosé, a dry AOP wine which benefits from the clay-limestone soils of the region.

Food and wine pairings: the AOC Côtes du Marmandais comes to the table!

Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc or even Malbec… So many beautiful grape varieties that deserve to be in the spotlight. But today, it’s Abouriou’s turn! And it’s Sandra from the cellar “The Marmandais” who tells us about it, between anecdotes and culinary associations.

L'Abouriou is the story of a resurrection in Lot-et-Garonne. That of a grape variety with a generous character, already present in the XNUMXth century. At that time, there was little interest in rare grape varieties and the more traditional Bordeaux varieties were more popular. The Abouriou then ends up falling into oblivion. Here, in Marmandais, we have chosen to bring this grape variety back to life and make it the pride of our terroir. He’s a bit like our mascot now!”

His favorite food and wine pairing?

“Duck and Abouriou, without hesitation. The red and black fruit notes of Abouriou and the powerful aromas of Val de Garonne poultry combine wonderfully. Publish the bans!
