Description
The only tourist route that connects two coasts, from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean, the Canal des 2 Mers à Vélo crosses the great South-West of France between Royan and Sète. The 750 km long route is divided into three chapters: the Gironde Estuary, the Canal de Garonne and the Canal du Midi.
In Lot-et-Garonne, you will cycle along the Canal de Garonne, mainly on a greenway built on the old towpath. If each stage invites you to fall under the charm of the lock keepers' houses, the bastides, the Buzet vineyard or the rural landscapes, one of the highlights of the trip will be your arrival in Agen via the canal bridge over the Garonne, second bridge -the longest canal in France, entirely built in dressed stone. At the water's edge and under the coolness of century-old plane trees, the walk is rich in discoveries.
