In Val de Garonne, there’s no problem getting there by boat!
Our territory is accessible by Garonne Canal, whether from Toulouse (and perhaps from Sète for the more adventurous), or from Castets-en-Dorthe in Gironde.
All you have to do is rent a boat or put your own skiff on the Canal via a slipway and… it’s always straight ahead!

Our 6 nautical stopsu Val de Garonne are designed to allow you to stop for a few hours or a night and will serve as points to travel throughout the destination:

MEILHAN-SUR-GARONNECAUMONT-SUR-GARONNELAGRUERE
PONT-DES-SABLESLE MAS-D’AGENAISVILLETON

IF YOU'RE BEGINNING ON THE CANAL, A FEW LITTLE ESSENTIAL REMINDERS FOR YOUR SAFETY AND THAT OF OTHERS!

  •  First the SPEED IS LIMITED à 8 km/h. So don't be offended if you are overtaken by the bikes following you, we are here to relax. The Canal is the praise of slowness.
  • On NAVIGATE to the right, as on the road. Gymkhana is prohibited.
  • In the event of an obstacle, there are no brakes on a boat! To slow down, simply put into reverse (remember the movie Titanic).
  • The suspended tube that hangs in front of the lock entrances is not a garden hose. It is used, by turning it a quarter turn, to open the lock to overcome the difference in height.
  • No, you don't tie your moorings in the locks (I know it sounds stupid but it's a reality).
  • The Canal flows from east to west. There is a left bank and a right bank. To find your way around our territory, remember that the Garonne is always to the right of the Canal.
  • We don'tACOSTED not anywhere at the end of the day. There are water stops to comfortably spend the night in complete peace and quiet (everywhere else there are big bears).
  • To access amenities (water, electricity), don't forget toBUY TOKENS  at the automatic terminals of Villeton and Meilhan, at the east and west entrances to our portion of the canal.

And what could be better than cycling and small communal paths to reach the Rocks of Reulé in Tonneins, or Fools of Garonne in Couthures-sur-Garonne…

And don't miss the brand new cycle path between the greenway and Marmande which spans the river via the incredible Thivras viaduct and its twenty arches! A real novelty to try in 2023…

Our favorite bike ride is to test the circuit Tèrra Aventura in Fourques-sur-Garonne. There are only two circuits in Lot-et-Garonne and after this 3-hour, 11,5 km walk you will be unbeatable on the canal and the charming village of Fourques-sur-Garonne!

You are now ready to live your experience as a freshwater sailor in Val de Garonne in complete peace of mind.

Enjoy it and have a good ride!
